Neighborhood Engagement

neighborhoodsMy belief in the future of New Orleans has its roots in the power of strong neighborhoods, the vision of District C residents and the unending character and resilience of our people. When communities organize, define shared priorities and collaborate, we create intentional possibility.

As your city council member I will place neighborhood participation and citizen input as a constant component of good governance. Constituency services will feature an expanded degree of communication, access to public information, increased resource development and improved project transparency.

I will work within each neighborhood to development specific actions with measurable outcomes and time lines. Community members and neighborhood associations will prioritize council actions on their behalf.

District C will develop and implement inclusive neighborhood driven strategies, which build on our strengths. Together we can build bridges and cross boundaries to a better New Orleans.

My primary goals will be to: develop a West Bank Constituency Services Office in the Algiers’s Court House and create neighborhood based “quality of life committees”.

I will create:

West Bank Constituency Services Office

  • We will in effect move city hall closer to west bank residents, with regular office hours and scheduled special services made more accessible
  • We will work to improve city hall services for east bank residents
  • Create neighborhood based “Quality of Life Committees”
  • Standing committees will be established to prioritize, inform and monitor progress in the six issue areas of Crime & Public Safety, Blight, Infrastructure, Fiscal Accountability, Economic Development and Youth Services
  • Each committee will meet at bi-monthly or quarterly intervals to maintain a continued dialogue, develop strategy and community progress reports on prioritized issues

Develop a District C website

  • A platform for community input, information sharing and resource development
  • Will track district projects including street repair, infrastructure improvements, economic development and recovery projects.
  • Website will include links to city and state services, non-profit services and development partners
  • Website will be business friendly and include employment opportunities portal

Create a Database of District C Services

  • Develop a comprehensive listing of services and resources available within the district
  • Focused on non-profit, volunteer and city services designed to improve quality of life

Develop internship program including participants from AmeriCorps and VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America)

  • Encourage leadership development within city government by enlisting the brightest young minds to assist in developing projects such as the district website and database of services
  • These invaluable interns will allow for faster communication, timelier constituency responsiveness, and increased resource development while energizing our office and providing training to our citizens
