Public infrastructure is in a state of disrepair which threatens to undermine hard fought progress in neighborhood revitalization. Historically, New Orleans city infrastructure investment has fallen short of the minimum needed to promote safety and economic development. Management of repair and rehabilitation must include a multi-agency strategy formed in conjunction with scaled recovery projects. Improved delivery of basic public service is at the forefront of neighborhood sustainability and a high quality of life.
My primary goal will be to work to develop long term multi agency plans with clear financial strategies to protect and improve streets, sewage and water systems. I will use professional and neighborhood recommendations to prioritize critical projects and create transparent criteria and calendars to identify a four year plan for District C.
I will advocate for:
Fiscal Responsibility
- Transparency in tracking recovery dollars and projects to be certain best practices are in use
- Ensure an integrated approach by relevant agencies to mandate the maximum return for investment in capital projects
Public Facilities & Essential Services
- Ensure that all public buildings in District C including fire and police stations, jails and courts are capable of enduring major storm damage (often referred to as hardening)
- Ensure that each District C public building has a specific role in storm readiness, evacuation services and recovery
Street Maintenance and Side-Walk Beautification
- Create street and side-walk assessment plan for each District C neighborhood
- Work with public works and other agencies to ensure that District C has its fair share of repair funding and a project calendar is readily available and priority project schedules are met
Sewerage and Water Board
- Ensure Sewerage and Water Board is composed of professionals with related experience, including business, non-profit environmental groups and community members
