Kristin Palmer

The daughter of a former federal prosecutor and a school teacher, the second of eight children, Kristin learned the values of sharing, cooperation and integrity at a very early age. As the mother of 3 daughters she knows the importance of safe streets and healthy communities. She believes that building on our strengths and investing in our neighborhoods is the key to revitalizing our city and having a quality of life which makes us prosper.

Kristin is a non-profit executive with 20 years experience in neighborhood revitalization, financial management, economic development and grass roots organizing. Post-Katrina, Kristin has put over 400 displaced residents back into their homes. She developed a $6 million dollar annual rebuilding operation and leveraged over $7 million in public funding to create a model for creating long-term sustainability in our communities.

Kristin is a proven leader with dedicated civic involvement in education, economic development, neighborhood revitalization, evacuation management and community organizing.  She has managed a staff of 60, including one of the largest AmeriCorps and VISTA (Volunteers In Service to America) programs in New Orleans.

As a housing construction and renovation professional with historic preservation and green building expertise, she knows how to conceptualize, finance and manage a project to completion.  Kristin knows what it means to meet a payroll and through her work within government, business, non-profit and community sectors, Kristin has the skills to develop inclusive coalitions to solve problems.

Passionate about District C, Kristin knows that our strengths are in our neighborhoods, building on the work of those organizations and recovery lessons developed in the non-profit and business community is at the heart of her commitment to serve.  She believes that city government must insist on transparency, best practices, fiscal responsibility, smart reform and create a means for citizen involvement.

Kristin will continue to bring together New Orleans’ leaders, citizens and businesses by building bridges and crossing boundaries to build a safer, stronger District C.
